As the color of night, a time during which our ancestors felt vulnerable, black began to be associated with evil. Since this is the color we see when we close our eyes, it also gained associations with sleep and death, which is why some cultures mark graves with black stones. Finally, in modern magick practitioners use the color black to help with banishing or grounding spells and rituals.
